According to a report received by the Iranian Asylum Seekers and Refugees Solidarity Council in Turkey, three days ago, Iranian political asylum seeker Diako Naqshineh, from Bukan, Iran, was arrested and detained by Turkish police while trying to cross into Greece.
According to the news reaching the Solidarity Council, Diako has been transferred to Edirne Camp. Diako Naqshineh is a well-known Iranian political activist who has fought against the Islamic Republic of Iran for many years, and if he deported to Iran, he will face serious dangers.
According to Article 33 of the non-refoulement principle of the 1951 Refugee Convention, refugee should not be returned to a country where they face serious threats to their life or freedom due to political, religious, national affiliation or membership in a particular social group. States must abide by their obligations under international conventions and treaties concerning asylum seekers and refugees.
The Iranian Asylum Seekers and Refugees Solidarity Council in Turkey calls on all human rights activists and institutions to do their utmost to prevent the deportation of political activist Diako Naqshineh to Iran.
