Announcement on the:

Establishing of the Solidarity Council of Iranian Asylum Seekers and Refugees in Turkey

The establishing board of the Solidarity Council with the cooperation of several refugees, began its activity about three months ago. The purpose of founding this council is to determine and pursue the issues faced by the Iranian asylum seekers in Turkey. We understood that there was a huge gap and lack of internal communicating among asylum seeker, contact and advocacy with refugee and human rights activists and organisations, labour organisation,  and particularly with the Unite Nation High Commissioner for Refugees in Turkey and other agencies involved with providing support and facilitating Iranian asylum seekers to services they need.  

Following a series of regular meetings conducted online with a large number of asylum seekers and refugees in Turkey, a constitution has been established that reflects the short and long term needs and objectives of Iranian asylum seekers in Turkey and within the Solidarity Council. The Temporary Founding Board then organised  a the virtual General Assembly on 23 May 2020. After a serious of discussions and approvals of all forwarded suggestions, the assembly elected five members for the Executive Board and one member as a supervisor to the Executive Board for a one year. 

In this regard, the Solidarity Council of Asylum Seekers and Refugees, invites and asks for the cooperation and assistance of all independent individuals and institutions that work in the interests of asylum seekers, and also asks them to accompany us in direction of achieving the rights of asylum seekers. It is only through collective and cooperative work that we can take steps in the interests of refugees.

The Solidarity Council also intends to communicate with activists, journalists, immigration lawyers, organisations and institutions involved in asylum, and enter into a cooperative work process while maintaining independence. 

Finally, with the support of international and human rights organisations, we hope that the discriminatory and long-term processes faced by refugees will be stopped so that asylum seekers can start a new life in a safe place.
